I agree! When I think back on the different stages in my children's lives, I think that each one is better than the next. You know, the first word, the first step, then the first day of school, etc. But I am loving (most days anyway) the teenage period. There are those moments of high drama (yelling, slamming doors) and total angst (sulking, long silences, one-word responses and shrugs), but all things considered, it's great to have philosophical discussions, chats about politics and society and a pal to watch baseball with. Or to go shopping at the DI with, in the case of my 19-year-old daughter.

Now you will have to excuse me. I need to hop on my backhoe to make a pathway into Sam's frighteningly messy bedroom!

My 15 year old son is one of my best friends in the world. I totally appreciate the relationship I have with him and trust his advice on many subjects. It is great to have that kind of relationship! I like the Rockies team but hate the Broncos...

There's nothing better than spending time with your teenager/adult kids. It is fun to find out they are your new friends. I've ridden on Amtrack a few times and it is quite an experience. Fascinating people ride the rails. Holly, you would love the novel, The Christmas Train by David Baldacci.
