Holly, can you talk a bit about the voucher issue and Jordan School District splitting (potentially but almost certainly) - as a parent of a public school 3rd grader - and a Jordan School District parent - this is almost certain to drive me out of Utah, if not to Canada - I am most concerned. Would love to hear "true" Utah thoughts as I admit I am from out of town, obviously.

Great review...Holly,perhaps Ted can have his own Category and be a featured guest writer.
Of course we believe Anita Hill, what else would explain Clarence Thomas and anger. The man has some deep issues.

Sounds like a great book. Though I want to find the one about FDR first.

I believe Anita Hill too. As a female, that would be too damn embarassing to talk about unless it were absolutely the fact of the matter.

Nice review, I got the pleasant impression that it wasn't knee-jerk anti-conservative, though I thought it was interesting that it was the liberals who brought 'balance' to the court.

I thought the comment about justices' views shifting after appointment was interesting, though I don't remember any who started out liberal shifting very much. Maybe the sample is too small.

Any, thanks Ted and Holly, sounds like a book worth reading.

Thanks, Chardonnay...for those wondering, he's referring to my weekly column in Salt Lake City Weekly (www.slweekly.com). I made a mistake though. I mentioned the summit of Boulder Mountain being 7700 feet. Good Lord, it's more than 9,000 feet!

That's what I get for rushing as I did on Tuesday afternoon to get the assignment done. Putting a paper out is just like making sausage, folks. No wait, that's the Utah Legislature, right?

The article in CW on Southern Utah was perfect. It`s the only part of the state I visit and has truly awesome parks. Bill Clinton did the right thing in creating Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument...saving the area from the local rednecks who would strip-mine Kaiparowits if they could.

Teasdale is a tiny island of liberals in the LDS culture. One local lady was chairwoman of the SDS at the U.of Washington during the Vietnam era...now she is the number one environmentalist in the Capitol Reef area. Go SUWA !

Clarence Thomas is beneath contempt, I believe everything Anita Hill said about him.

Nice review Ted. I can't read the book myself until it comes out in paperback (I only buy Cormac McCarthy novels in hard cover). Obviously every presidential election is critical for the impact they have on the supreme court. Think how the Roberts and Alito appointments would have been different under Gore!! For that reason alone I have little patience in people telling me they would rather NOT vote (or vote for Nadar) than vote for someone like Hillary. There are great games at play in Washington politics that reach into our very bedrooms: we can't afford having another conservative republican as president for the next round of supreme court appointments unless we want to go back to the days of the rusty hanger.

Ted, you are a great writer! You and Holly should put together a book and have it published.

The president picks the Supreme Court. Before 2000, who knew the Supreme Court would pick a president? Toobin concludes the justices did almost everything wrong and embarrassed themselves. Somehow I wonder if most of them would agree with that assessment, or feel any shame.
