Please meet the newest member of our family, Cassidy Star Begum:

Cassidy is the daughter of Jessica and Gibran Begum. She was born in Santa Monica, California in the wee morning hours of March 31, 2007. She’s a little wisp of a thing, made her entry into the world about three weeks early and weighed 5 pounds 12 ounces.

Jessica is the fourth of Ted and Kathy Wilson’s five children, which makes her one of my lovely stepdaughters. Jessica and Gibran live a fine existence in Venice Beach, California. Jessica teaches children’s art classes in Malibu; Gibran works in commercial real estate in downtown L.A.

And now their lives have changed measurably and forever. And all for the better.
