Can someone tell me how this happens?
And what is this “a family of about” 15 children? I have “about” 15 tomatoes on my plants in the garden. I have “about” 15 pens and pencils in the cup on my desk.
But counting children? Isn’t that sort of an exact science?
Unbelievable.

Holly,
You`re living in Utah…must be many children of uncertain parentage. I have a friend here who is a descendant of the Allred clan. Her mother “had about 40 siblings”.

Must have been the ’spare’ one. You see plenty of these running around stores unsupervised, screaming (for enjoyment) by themselves in malls and any other place where groups of people gather. Was likely more than they had planned on so will not be missed .
I know that having a bunch of kids can be a trial, lord knows I would have freaked at more than 2, but come on!! If you are being sorely tried with 3, going on to 7 in hopes that the older ones will help out is just dumb. They will have lives beyond being babysitters for their siblings and will either do a bad job or seriously resent it and avoid their families in adult life. Don’t do that to your kids either. Stop when you have all you can handle whatever that number is.

But what is an exact science? What does that mean “exact science”? Is science ever exact? How come a bunch of scientists argue about global warming? Answer, because part of them are on the payroll of the petroleum institute. Does that means science is only exact when you factor in conflict of interests?
So maybe that is the same with “about ” 15 children. Maybe the first five were with Del Mar, and Jody Ann still regrets the day his saggy trousers ambled out of the double wide for the last time. The next four kids were projects with two different guys, one short and blond, and the other tall with black curly hair all over his back. Jody Ann sometimes thinks there were only two kids in this set especially after she has had a shot or two. The next three kids were from her second best relationship with a trucker who drove over the weekends and shacked up with her from Tuesday to Thursday. He treated her good, left extra money in the kitchen drawer, and rarely smoked in bed. When Walter drove his rig into the river heading to Mesquite at 2am with an underage girl in the front seat, Jody Ann went back to work at the diner full time. She started into drinking at all times of the day, leaving the kids to fend for themselves most of the time, and she honestly can’t remember if the next two were with Vernon or Jake, and where the hell did that kid with one grey eye and the other green come from anyway? I think that is about 15.

I just came from my summer class that I’m taking at a local community college. Today, one of my classmates said she had “about 24″ siblings. She has never met the older ones.
In my drinking days, “just a cupple o’ beers officer” could mean as much as two cases. I think it is still the same.
Or, she’s really pregnant.

Aargh. I guess I need to ask why ask why?

The mother of the 24 children was 13-years old when she was married. She had three marriages. The final marriage produced the girl in the class and she is an only child. The family is from Salt Lake City!

About 15 children could mean a laaaarge extended family live under the same roof….brothers, sisters, cousins etc. But then again, this IS Utah where your brothers and sisters could also be your cousins.

How about being the sister who has about 15 nieces and nephews dropped off at your house every day?
