Entertaining story, larry. I also find it interesting that all 15 or so citations on the web in support of this version use the LaVan quote as their source, and I don't know how reliable his stuff is. And here I thought it was a corruption of Sasquatch...

Have great trip Holly, but while you're gone I have a question for your correspondents. What does the word Wasatch mean? How did the range of mountains get that name?

I don't buy this one although I do wish it were true.

Opinions vary on the origin of the name Wasatch. In Southern Paiutes: Legends, Lore, Language and Lineage, author LaVan Martineau recounts the origins of Wasatch told to him by Utes he interviewed: "The Utes told me what the word 'Wasatch' means. They said that one time many Indians lived there between Heber and Provo. One day the men were out hunting when a big blizzard came up and they lost one of the hunters. When they found him he was dead and his penis was frozen stiff. They therefore called the place Wuhu' Seai Frozen Penis. Francis McKinley, a Ute Indian Chief, tells the same story."[2]

Jenny will win many elections in the future. After all it is in her blood. I would like for her to run in a county race so we could vote for her. Enjoy yourselves and give us a report when you return with your tan and ready to go get'em.

Cheers! Wish we could get a blog post from the beach so I could be jealous but guess I will be anyway.

Hey, maybe Jenny can run for Salt Lake County Mayor at some point. That way I can vote for her! :)

She ran a good and honorable race. You're right to be proud of her.

Tell her to stick in there, and we'll see her in the future for sure.

And have a nice trip.
